How many times while forced to bribe, you wished that you had video recorded the bribery demand made by Government officials to confront them later on? You knew, the devices (smartphone or mini-camcorder) you hold are too archaic, too noticeable or too inconvenient to make secret recordings. Not any more now. Delhi Government, in its zest for uprooting corruption is developing an application that would conveniently do sting operation without the culprit getting any inkling whatsoever.
The Aam Aadmi Party, which leads the Government in Delhi, claims that the mobile app under development now will equip the common man to secretly record a sting audio/video and transmit the data in the secured Government server. The details are yet to come, but all that we understand at this stage is that the app would rarely raise any element of suspicion in the mind of the culprit. Interestingly, when the app is initiated for doing a sting operation, the home screen of the mobile would turn off automatically, giving an impression that the phone is switched off. The targeted person would thus be oblivious of the fact that he is under the lenses and is being monitored, and that his voice and images are being transmitted without his knowledge.

Even if the accused get to know subsequently about the operation, and attempts to damage or snatch away the device, it would be impossible to erase the data, since these are already transmitted to the secured Server. The Government staff, who would get access to the data so transmitted, will be able to make further investigations and initiate action against the accused. The Government plans to launch the app in about a month’s time. Hopefully, the app would prove a turning point in the Government’s fight against corruption.
