This part of the year (in north India, particularly) is indeed very trying and frustrating for the people on the go. The travellers and tourists who take trains or flight are more often than not inordinately delayed or stranded on account of last-minute cancellation of services. The culprits however remain the weather – intense fog condition, heavy rains, severe cold, et al. Now a piece of good news for those travelling or planning to travel by train – an Android application called ‘RailYatri’ will ease their dilemma.
RailYatri is a fog warning app that would help travellers handle their journey with the least of inconveniences. The objective is to provide reliable information to the travelling masses about the emerging weather condition as also the location of a particular train in the event of his being struck midway. Most of the worries or trouble are on account of lack of information, more so when you are travelling (or about to travel) during the winter or rainy season at vacation time.

The features in the app are useful and handy. The ‘Fog Alerts’ feature lets the passengers know the areas likely to be affected by fogs and can thus be helpful in chalking out their journey plan by identifying appropriate routes or suitable days. Similarly, the GPS Locator helps a travelling person to locate his position in a stranded train that got unexpectedly struck in the middle of the journey. It also provides information about the estimated time of arrival at upcountry station. “A traveller will not feel lost on a train”, claimed Manish Rathi, co-founder and CEO of RailYatri.in recently during a press meet at Delhi.
Interestingly, there are some very features are also available in the app. Apart from the usual PNR status, Time Table, Arrival/Departure and Trains between stations, it also contains features like Live Train Status, Platform Locator, etc. Under Platform Locator, for instance, one can easily ascertain the platform number where the train would halt. Thus, the app, which could be downloaded free from Android Playstore will be a great help to not only the travelling public and their relatives but all those who simply want to plan for a travel soon.
