Now that smart watches are spreadind widely in the market, manufacturers are racing up to develop high-speed wearables with long-lasting batteries is. To accomplish this Researchers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPA) are working on a chip called the WiFi Reflector Chip that will speed up the variables.

Now a day’s Smartwatches and Smartphones are becoming a part of life, so whether you're tracking your steps, monitoring your health or sending photos from a smart watch then you want the battery life of your wearable device to last as long as possible. Considering this idea power necessary to transmit and receive information from a wearable to a computer, cellular or WiFi network can be reduced. Hence, you could get a lot more speed and battery life of wearable you are wearing before having to recharge it. Tang, who is working on this technology said in a statement that –‘The idea is if the wearable device only needs to reflect the Wi-Fi signal from a router or cell tower, instead of generating it, the power consumption can go way down and eventually the battery life can go way up’.

The challenge for researchers was that the wearable device was not the only object in a room that reflects signals - walls, floors, ceilings, furniture and whatever other objects happen to be around also does. The chip in the wearable device needs to differentiate between the real WiFi signal and the reflection from the background. To overcome these background reflections, Tang and Chang (Researchers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory) developed a wireless silicon chip that constantly senses and suppresses background reflections, enabling the WiFi signal to be transmitted without interference from surrounding objects.
The technology has also been tested by the researchers at distances of up to 20 feet (6 meters) and they achieved a data transfer rate of 330 megabits per second, which is about three times the current WiFi rate, using about a thousand times less power than a regular WiFi link.
