A touchscreen laptop is generally considered to have an edge over the ordinary laptops in regard to its ease of operation. The interface with Windows8 and Windows10 gets all the more convenient and enjoyable. The touchscreen laptops, though quite appealing, are fairly expensive and beyond the reach of an average laptop-user. It is here that AirBar has assumed a special significance, as it converts an ordinary laptop into a touchscreen one with the help of a small device plugged into the USB.
AirBar is a novel product promoted by Neonode’s zForce technology family that converts a laptop screen into a touchscreen. It projects an invisible light-field on the surface of the display, which makes it possible to ‘touch’ the screen. When your finger, pen or brush breaks the light, you interact with the screen without actually touching it. The user has simply to mount the bar straight from edge to edge and plug in the USB, and it is ready for immediate use. Once attached, you will be able to use virtually anything – fingers, gloves, pens, pencils, paint-brush, etc. – to interact with the usual Windows gestures like pinch, swipe, zoom and scroll away. The process of attaching or detaching the bar (attached with a magnetic strip) is easy and without any hitches.
At the initial launch, AirBar will be adaptable to a limited number of machines for working with Windows7, 8 and 10. The company has future plans and is reportedly working on Mac operated option as well, which may be brought out at a later stage.
The product is expected to be launched at CEC in Las Vegas next month. It can be pre-ordered at $49.00 for the 15.6” screen that would be offered in the initial stage. With the expansion of other sizes and computer platforms, the benefit of the device can be available to other machines as well.
