The update of Android Mobile Operating System launched towards the end of May – and so far been known only as Android M - has now been formally christened as Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This is in keeping with the tradition of Android naming its version after a sweet treat. The mystery of ‘M’ thus stands revealed and the OS version would simply be called. The new OS will hopefully start rolling out to supported Android phones in October or November this year.
You may now be wondering about the features the new update would have. In the present version of Android OS (Lollipop), you find yourself struggling to extricate from the Menu frequently used App every time you need it. No such fiddling now. The App drawer is imaginatively designed in the new version, where you don’t have to flip pages after pages to get the App you are looking for. The App drawer will be scrollable in this version – simply scroll through the Apps and it is there! Additionally, the Apps are alphabetically grouped for easy access. If you know the name, you get it instantly.

At the first sight, you will hardly notice any major difference while holding the Android M mobile in hand. At the first instance, however, you may find a bolder lock screen text – the digital clock would appear bolder and a little more prominent. While exploring more minutely, you may discover a number of welcome changes in features. Marshmallow will feature a search box for the App drawer for faster location of Apps. Another change is in regard to uninstalling of Apps. You do not need to search for File Manager, etc. to look for an App for uninstallation – it can be done from the home screen as well. The other innovations are: separate volume levels for ringtone, alarms and media playbacks, per App battery saver mode, use of Bluetooth for improving GPS accuracy, Memory Manager Screen, setting of new default Apps, provision for instant deletion or sharing of screenshots, Do Not Disturb feature, etc. The user interface experience would simply be great. Please wait for the new version and we know, your wait for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow is now getting too long! Isn’t it?
