Its always been the high-spec factor for Apple that makes them so beloved. At the recent WWDC 2013 Apple took the wraps off of a new workstation, Mac Pro. With a cylindrical design that most tech critics say to be like a little trash can, this Mac Pro is a serious contender. We take a look at the new bad boy from Apple.
Design
Unlike the previous generation Mac Pros, the new guy has a cylindrical design which means exapandability seems to be like an issue. The little guy stands at just 9.9 inches tall, 6.6 inches wide and weighs just under 11lbs. With the cylindrical design, Apple wants to convey a message that the new Mac Pro is meant to be placed on top of your desk rather than being placed in the corner of the room like traditional PCs. With a cooling system that is common to CPU, GPU and various other components, it is shaped in a triangle and has a cooling fan on top.
Hardware & Software
The hardware is what gets everybody gripping to their seats. With the new generation Intel Xeon E5 CPUs, the 12 Core massacre just begins with the base frequency from 3.7 Ghz Quad Core to 2.7 Ghz 12 core CPUs. For storage you get 256GB PCIe storage configurable to 1TB. The advantage of PCIe storage over regular SATA HDD is that you get transfer speeds upto 1.2GB/s which is phenomenal. To handle the graphics you get 2 AMD FirePro graphics with 2GB of DDR5 VRAM and going upto 3GB of DDR5 VRAM. These graphic cards are not your regular "high-end" gaming ones but with a performance so high even GTA 5 bows down in shame. With 3.5 teraflops of data transfer, you know what this can do.The RAM comes humming along in 12GB DDR3 ECC to 64GB DDR3 ECC (1866Mhz) with even more expandability upto 128GB since support from the new OS X Mavericks is all out. Going sofware wise, the new Mac Pro comes with OS X Mavericks but will also be able to run 2 to 3 Windows OSs at the same time via VM Ware. With such incredible hardware you get the blessing of editing multiple 4K videos simultaneousy and studio graphics for professionals. With
Connectivity
You've got a host of connectivity features with the new guy on the block or should I say "roll". You get 4 USB 3.0 ports, 6 Thunderbolt 2.0 ports, 2 Gigabyte ethernet ports, a power supply and 1 UHDTV HDMI port. So this Mac Pro can connect upto 3 4K Displays at ONCE and upto 6 Thunderbolt displays. Talk about gaming when this comes out. Wifi 802.11 ac a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 are also bundled.
With great power comes great price. The Mac Pro comes with the basic set of features at $2999 for the Qaud Core version and $3999 for the 6 Core version. If you go full on expandability and customization, you may even get a heart attack when the bill comes in at $25000.

According to the Apple website, the disk and memory are user accessible, so surely that means that they are also user expandable? It would make sense to have it that way, in case of disk failure and the ability to upgrade RAM as needed.

Given the cylindrical design and all-in-one compact layout, there might be some room after all.
