With the growth in Technology, the need for skills would soon diminish. It could be in spheres like parking a car. Sensors and software now offer promises to free owners from the task of parking their car - turning vehicles into robotic driver - by dropping off chauffeurs and parking vehicles through a mechanism without seeking human intervention, whatsoever.
One of the most popular auto-mobile manufacturers, BMW, has demonstrated this technology during the month when its car (BMW-i3) having been equipped with special features was presented at the International CES event. At a multi-level garage of the SLS Las Vegas hotel, a BMW engineer by way of demonstration spoke into his Samsung Gear S smartwatch and directed in clear tone "BMW, go park yourself." The vehicle immediately moved to an empty parking spot by turning and backing itself perfectly into the given space, and finally turned itself off on its own. Now if you want to retrieve the car, all that you have to do is to tap on the watch and give another command, âBMW pick me up.â The car would come back to the engineer automatically. The car in question was not an ordinary one - it was equipped with laser scanners that are aesthetically blended into two parts of the vehicle. It is mounted in the front right and left quarter panels. No GPS was used. The vehicle is programmed for a specific map of the parking garage and an on-board cellular data connection.
Yves Pilat, one of the lead BMW's engineer engaged in development revealed that this Samsung Smart-watch is merged with its own cellular connection. The commands are sent to a BMW server, which then relays the instructions to the car. This process of convenient parking of BMW is known as 'fully automated remote valet parking'. The concept is picking up, and it would now be possible to do any kind of parking at any spot elsewhere too without having to depend on a driver, explained Pilat. BMW is working with another company called Parkmobile, which is considering integrating parking location and payment features with its robotic valet in the future.
