Sky is the limit to the continuing technological innovations. Here comes an LCD tablet that seems - in terms of its usage - similar to a slate and pencil, but with some added functions. Bogie Board RIP is one that not only allows you to take temporary notes and erase them as well. It appears the invention is striving for a paperless society.
The Bogie Board RIP is fundamentally a pressure-sensitive, flexible plastic that requires zero power to retain what is written on it and only a small watch battery to erase the screen. Written formats and graphic images are created with a stylus (provided with the gadget) or any other tool that will apply the desired level of pressure. Unlike traditional LCDs that have a poor response to pressure, the Boogie Board’s Reflex LCD is highly responsive to variable amounts of pressure.

It may be clarified that the gadget is neither an ordinary LCD screen, nor is it digital whiteboard. It is capable of saving (it has a storage capacity of 8 MB) what the user writes by way of screenshot in PDF format. In fact, the functions of the gadget can be summed up as (a) scribbling or making images, (b) deletion, (c) saving in PDF format and (d) transferring the saved image to a computer through a software.
There are however a few limitations: The gadget does not have the facility for selective erasing of a part of the scribbled portion. The user has to erase the whole page and re-draft afresh. The other shortfalls are its limited memory and unavailability of handwriting recognition facility. If these problems are duly addressed, the gadget could get an instant popularity. We consider this, despite the shortcomings, to be a commendable effort on the part of the manufacturers. Happy scribbling!
