The state owned telecommunication giant, BSNL, has unveiled its expansion plan recently. While inaugurating BSNL’s Internet Data Centre at Chennai, it was announced by BSNL officials that the organisation has a plan outlay for an investment of Rs 1,000 crore for improving telecom facilities in the country. The Centre at Chennai has been the fourth one, after opening of such hubs at Ahmedabad, Faridabad and Hyderabad.
BSNL Director, N K Gupta, while speaking to the Press at Delhi, informed that the Centre has joined hands with a reputed data infrastructure firm, CtrlS. The firm would be providing the requsite infrastructure facility, while BSNL would provide the bandwidth and space for the service. The services would comprise of providing Skype facility and Wi-Fi hotspots at tourist centres. In fact, 14 centres have already been identified in the South for making available of the facilities. The services would also include software and cloud computing. The revenue generated from the venture would be shared by both, BSNL and CtrlS.

It was further disclosed that roll out of the plan and the resultant changes would take five to six months time. Interestingly, BSNL has already come up with a plan for migration of landline customers to next-generation of service facility. It is claimed that lot many services would be made available under the scheme. The services will be initially available to the Corporate customers and big organisations.
