Apple dealer Corning launched its next-generation Gorilla Glass 4 on Thursday. The Company claims that it is twice as tough as any competitive cover glass at present in the market. Gorilla Glass 4 was specifically designed to address Smartphone users screen breakage problem. This new tough glass is 200 per cent better than the present Gorilla Glass 3.
Speaking on the occasion of the new launch, Corning said, Gorilla Glass 4 is bit identical to Gorilla Glass 3. It possesses the same thickness of 0.4 millimeters and same optical properties. Corning is focusing entirely on fixing one of the greatest problems that plagues society today, viz. dropped phones and broken displays. The Company carried out a few drop tests and found that dropping a dummy device onto 180-grit was the best approximation for the rough roads. They have used drop-test machine to drop the dummy device from a height of 1 meter that is 3.3 feet. According to Corning, this glass can survive a flat drop on its face 80% of the time which is up to two times better than before.
