The use of electronic gadgets in examinations is increasing rapidly all over the country, especially in Delhi. The electronic devices used in written tests have worried the Delhi government over the possibility of incompetent candidates joining the government services through dubious means. The AAP government has therefore decided to install jammers to prevent cheating with the help of high-tech electronic gadgets in written examinations held for Delhi government jobs.
Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) was set up in 1996, which conducts written tests and interviews for middle and lower level state government and civic agencies jobs. DSSSB is worried about majority of candidates using electronic gadgets to pass the written test. As a result the job board started using the electronic jammers. Recently, DSSSB successfully used the jammers in a clerk-level exam on a pilot basis and it decided to use the device in all of its critical exams. An official also disclosed: ‘Applications have been invited from various service providers of phone jammers’.

A mobile phone jammer is an instrument that is used to prevent cellular phones from receiving signals from base and the jammer effectively disables cellular phones. The technique used in the jammers is that it transmits on the same radio frequencies as the cellphone and thus disrupting the communication between the phone and the cell-phone base station in the tower.
According to the initiative, the agency will have to ensure that sufficient number of jammers are supplied and installed to block cellphone and bluetooth services at the exam centre. The most important requirement is that jammers should work with or without electric supply for the entire duration of the exams without any technical fault.
