We have a number of scanning related applications for Android-enabled gadgets, which provide the facilities for scanning documents and pictures. None of them however had the OCR facility. Now here is an application for the Android platform that would help you not
only scan but would also convert text into editable one through its OCR (Optical Character Recognisation) feature.
The application called ‘Scanthing’ and available in Google Play (at a moderate price, of course) allows one to capture image using either the devise’s own camera, an image from the gallary or the dedicated camera provided. It has the facility for rotating and cropping the text, and converting it into edible text.

The other facilities available are –
- By installing a Text-to-Speech Engine, one can play back the text, sentence by sentence, directly through Scanthing
- The application will automatically recognise and extract contact information, like telephone numbers, WEB URLs, Email addresses for retaining elsewhere or for sharing
- It can work with all printed typefaces, excepting of course, reading handwritten text
- It is possible to share the scan documents or pictures through Email, Dropbox, Evernote, Google Translations and other applications
- Associates tags to documents thereby using the tags for easy retrieval
- It convert several documents at one go, without affecting the performance of the devise
- The application supports as many as 33 languages. One has however to set his own default language
