On 12th August (occasion of Raksha Bandhan), the most popular social networking giant Facebook is set to launch an online shopping festival called Tied Together. The company has already tied up with a media agency called GroupM and will be setting up a website. The online shopping festival will be through this website between August 12 and August 29.

Meanwhile the media agencies reported that Facebook's pitch note said brands can -'unlock the power of social media that can reach 10 crore potential customers through this event.' Facebook users will be subscribing to this website and the popular social networking platform will help to drive traffic to the shopping site. Last October, Google also held a shopping festival in association with GroupM and Amazon called the Grand Diwali Mela. This event was a great success and now its rival Facebook has come up with a similar plan. Also, Facebook is looking for a title sponsor at an asking rate of Rs 3 crore and also principal sponsor at a similar rate besides associate sponsors for Rs 1.5 crore each.
Now a days, online shopping festivals have become a popular trend in India. The ecommerce companies are rising day by day like Amazon, Snapdeal and Flipkart which are driving the growth of online shopping in the country. A media planner said that - 'Facebook should be viewed as another media vehicle which has a huge database that can be utilised for commercial purposes.'
