AAP (Aam Admi party) has made lot of promises before its election and one among them was access to free WI-FI across the Delhi state. As per its commitment, AAP government is all set to establish free Wi-Fi facility in all the city’s colleges including Delhi University affiliated colleges and villages by the end of 2015.
In the budget drawn by Delhi government, AAP budgeted Rs 50 Crores to execute and implement free WI-FI zone establishment successfully. The budget is planned to cover Colleges and around 300 villages in Delhi. By the year-end, the first phase will be completed and later in coming phases, remaining places will be taken into consideration.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia claimed that the execution of project may be completed on or before the time scheduled that is the end of the year. Further, all the Government websites will be free and limited access to other contents (Personal browsing and entertainment) will be provided.
As of now, the Information Technology department of the AAP government has already started setting up hotspots as the first phase of the project. The department is intended to setup 50,000 to 80,000 hotspots across the city to implement the project. They researched the cities which have already set up WI-FI like Barcelona, shanghai and Singapore to understand the working and potential threats.
