Ringing Bells – a start-up company – has reportedly taken advantage of facilities available under ‘Make-in-India’ initiative to come out with the least expensive smartphone. Looking at the price, it indeed appears incredible that a new company with virtually no background could offer a smartphone at this rate. There are quite some speculations that the company cannot sell at this price, and that could well be a fraud. When the bare minimum cost of raw materials and inputs adds up to more than Rs 1,000/-, how can the manufacturer offer the gadget at a price of Rs 250/-. Despite the mystery surrounding the cost of the phone, there are a huge rush for booking of the item. It is understood that the supplies will be made only from June, 2016. Only time will show whether it is a genuine low-cost smartphone, or a real break-through in cost-cutting of phones.
As regards the features, they are similar to those usually available in entry level smartphones. It is powered by 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and has 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage. This phone of 4-inch display has double SIM provision. It flaunts a 3.2 MP rear camera and 0.3 megapixel front camera.
