On Thursday morning Google announced the Android Auto App. This App is currently available in the Google Play store for devices running Android Lollipop. It only works on phones running 5.0 or higher. This App requires Android device running Lollipop and a car with compatible Android Auto system. The app, on its own, is pretty much useless without a compatible Android Auto system.
Car companies like Volkswagen have been announcing Android Auto compatibility for 2015 and 2016, so some new cars are ready and waiting for this App. Also Pioneer’s new 8100 NEX series is the first third-party system compatible with Android Auto. Google's Android Auto platform essentially brings Google Now and Google Maps to the car's dashboard. Users get turn-by-turn navigation, traffic information and more via Google Maps with the app connected to car dashboard.

Note: The company has also hidden a developer mode in the Android Auto app. To get to Android Auto developer mode, users need to tap on the image header in the app for 10 times.
