Honda has launched this week a CNG variant of its compact petrol sedan Honda Amaze, called 1.2 S MT Plus (i-VTEC) that has been made compatible for CNG fuel option. Interestingly Honda Amaze has been fairly successful in India as it claims to have sold around 1.3 lakh units since its launch in 2013. The company states that this CNG ready variant of Amaze “has been specially tuned during production for CNG compatibility by way of optimising the suspension, application of CNG specific engine components and specially prepared wiring harnesses to ensure high level of quality,"
The Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Honda Cars India, Mr Jnaneswar Sen while commenting on the introduction of the new variant, claims that the vehicle will not only be cheaper to run but will also be eco-friendly. It would give high performance and low running cost. The company in a statement declared: “The new variant with bi-fuel option of Petrol/ CNG is being offered in the market to meet the needs of customers who are looking for an alternate fuel vehicle with high performance and low running cost.”
The design of the new variant remains unaltered although there have been few changes and modification like revising the wiring harness and modification of the suspension setup slightly to bear the additional weight of the CNG kit. The exterior design and the interior layout remain almost similar to Honda Amaze. The CNG variant has all the features that are there in Honda’s petrol variant. For instance the 2-DIN music system compatible to USB and Aux-in, steering mounted audio controls, key-less entry, driver seat height adjuster, electrically adjustable ORVMs, wheel caps etc. are similar to those equipped in Honda Amaze. The ex-show room price of the CNG variant at Delhi is Rs 6.54 lakh, which includes around Rs. 54,000 for the CNG kit installed.
