The engine is same as on CB Unicorn 160 which is new compact and tweaked engine. The all new 162.71 cc single cylinder engine produce will produce maximum power of about 14.5 BHP and maximum torque of about 14.61 NM. The gearbox remains the same 5-speed unit of the Unicorn and no changes are said to be done to the gear ratios also. This engine also comes with HET (Honda Eco Technology) and will feature a good balance between style, looks, power and fuel economy. Overall this engine gives great performance on both city and highways.

The design of Honda CB Hornet 160R is inspired from the design concept of Honda bike called the CX-01 which was showcased at Auto Expo 2014. However, the design approach is very different. The design is compact and the tank gets a muscular cowl which has the Honda symbol on it making it more muscular than any other bike in this segment. The front gets a Honda style headlight and the most noticeable point is its mid-ship exhaust design. Also, the alloy wheel design is new to the Honda family and looks great on the Hornet 160R. The rear has an X shaped tail light whereas in CB Unicorn it was H shaped tail light. Surprisingly this bike also gets wide tyres which was always missing from Honda's motorcycle range. The instrument console is similar to that of Honda Trigger which is a fully digital rectangular unit. The console cleanly defines all the requirements, from a bar form tachometer to a digital speedometer.
The Hornet 160R is expected to be equipped with two disc brakes both on front & rear and provide descent braking unit. The CBS (Combi Braking System) version of this bike is doubtful, which would make it the best bike in terms of braking in its segment. The front suspension is telescopic whereas the rear has a mono-shock suspension. The suspension is said to be improved and tuned and thus providing much comfortable riding experience to the rider as well as pillion.
