That may be in order to test before investing money in a server and domain name, or to customize your store locally before you proceed further. PrestaShop is a free, open source e-commerce solution that runs on PHP and MySQL. It also supports the payment gateways present in the market today. PrestaShop has one of the world’s largest communities exclusively dedicated to open source e-commerce development.
Installing PrestaShop locally will ask you to first install the software stack called XAMPP in your computer. XAMPP is one of the most popular Apache + MySQL + PHP install-able web development package. XAMPP provides you a simple way to install your favorite applications like Drupal, Joomla, WordPress and many more. XAMPP requires only one .exe file (For Windows). A small configuration is also required for the various components that make up for local web server. This would require you to be quite technical. After the installation of XAMPP make sure that all the components of your package is running properly. It means you should be able to access it through your browser.

Steps For Installation
Before you proceed further please note the requirements. Download and install the things given below. In this tutorial you will learn how to install PrestaShop on in your localhost using XAMPP. You can follow the steps given below to install PrestaShop.
- Now please open the setup file of XAMPP and select the components required to you as show in the screen shot below.
- After selecting the components click next and the installation completes here, just click Finish to proceed further.
- Once the XAMPP is opened, start both the things Apache & MySQL. After starting a window will appear saying Windows Firewall has blocked some features of this app. Now click on the allow access button.
- Later, just need extract the PrestaShop zip folder and paste the folder to My Computer ->Local disk C ->XAMPP ->htdocs.

- Once again go to XAMPP and click on Admin beside MySQL to open PHPMyAdmin for creating of database. Enter database name of your choice like "prestashop-web" and click create.
- Now open Prestashop Setup Wizard by using the link "http://localhost/prestashop". Select agree and click next.
- Once it is done it ask you to fill following requirements as shown in the image below. Click next.
- Later System Configuration will open and ask you to enter Database details.
Database name: prestashop-web (Enter the name created as above)
Database login: root
Database password: (empty)
- Click next and wait the installation to complete.
- Once it is finished open a new tab in the browser and type http://localhost/prestashop to access your e-commerce website.
- Later for security reasons. Delete the install folder from htdocs.
