Unlocking a phone essentially means making alteration in the handset with a view to bypassing its limitations that the manufacturer has fixed for the users. People go for unlocking a phone – especially the Android phones - for various purposes like installing alternate versions of Android or different Operating Systems, etc.
While Android is an open-source operating system that allows one to obtain source code and create his own version, most of the branded Android smartphones come locked with the users having little option to make alterations in its OS. There is however a word of caution for those who intend to unlock their smartphones - please do ensure beforehand that the action will not amount to any illegality or infringement of any terms of contract.

Now for unlocking a Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Note 3, S3 and S4 smartphone, you need to take the following action –

- Switch off your phone
- Insert a new SIM card
- Turn on the device
- Now, enter the code *#197328640# in the dial pad and enter
- Choose [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3] Perso SHA256 OFF
- Now wait for around 30 seconds, and then select ‘back’ to go back to the main menu
- In the main menu, you will find ‘Network Lock’. Choose [4] NW Lock NV
