There are some very cheering reports about the city of Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. Google has a number of plans that would lift Hyderabad to dizzy heights on their implementation. A very ambitious plan of Google is to have a major campus – the biggest one outside the United States – for Hyderabad. Another one is the offer of Google for the Street View for Hyderabad – the first city in India to have this benefit. These landmark developments by the IT giant would give a major fillip to the IT sector in Hyderabad, nay, the country as a whole.
Now, let us take a look to the first major initiative of Google in relation to this city. K T Rama Rao, the IT Minister of Telengana, disclosed through tweets that Google would build a campus spread over 2 million square feet of space in the capital city – also called the City of Pearls – and would increase its employee-strength from the existing 6,500 to 13,000 over a period of four years. The outlay on the project would entail an investment of Rs 1,000 crores, which would predictably have cascading effect in the state’s economy.
Google has also decided to apply Street View application for Hyderabad, thereby making it the first Indian city to get this advantage. While Street View has been extensively used for cities in the US, Canada and several European countries, the benefit is available only for a few tourist spots in India like Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar, etc. in partnership with Archaeological Survey of India. With the inclusion of Hyderabad under the list of cities available for Street View, it has certainly made a place for itself in the country’s IT history for being the first city to get this privilege.
