Almost all mobile devices usually come with pre-installed apps and Apple’s iOS is no exception. iOS has accumulated a large number of default apps. Some of these apps, like Maps, Weather, Safari, etc. are fairly popular and widely used, while there are apps like Tips, Stocks, Passbook, Newstand, etc. which are not as widely used. The users therefore prefer to get them removed for better utilisation of the limited storage available to them. iOS does not provide any option to the users to remove them, though some users do delete such unwanted apps through jail-break.
Apple is now examining the possibility of allowing iOS users to remove some of the pre-loaded apps. Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook recently hinted in the course of an interview that the future iOS versions might probably offer options to the users to remove some of the unwanted apps. He said that the issue is a complex one, and explained: “There are some apps that are linked to something else on the iPhone. If they were to be removed they might cause issues elsewhere on the phone. There are other apps that aren't like that. So over time, I think with the ones that aren't like that, we'll figure out a way."

Cook conceded that some of the default apps do not go well with the users. They square up valuable space in the process. The alternative third-party apps offer greater degree of satisfaction. He declared that Apple wanted its users to be happy, and remarked: “It’s not that we want to suck up your real estate; we’re not motivated to do that..…..So I recognize that some people want to do this, and it’s something we’re looking at.”
