Honda’s reputation as a major Japanese bike maker is well known. Its Indian counterpart, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, will shortly be launching its long awaited CBR 650F sportbike of 160cc in India. Initially Honda planned to import kits from Thailand and reassemble the bike in India.
As per the information now available, the company has now decided to assemble the bike in completely knocked down condition (CKD) and produce vehicles here in India itself, thereby gaining in taxes. Incidentally, the company does not have CKD for even a single vehicle in India. It is expected that Honda’s CBR 650F will be available here by the first quarter of next year.
With Honda’s decision to assemble and produce bike in India, the company will be benefited in terms of lower excise duty on the vehicle. The cost of the bike will consequently be fairly reasonable. The assumptions are that CBR 650F would be priced competitively, and will be in competition with bikes like Kawasaki Ninja 650R and Hyosung GT650R, etc.

Honda CBR 650F has a frame that is strong for sharp responsive handling. The chassis is fairly strong and firm. It is indeed a bike with high fun factor. It employs a four-pot 650cc with 4-cylinder mill that would be generating 87bhp and peak torque of 63Nm. It will have wide 120 and 180 section tyres at the front and rear respectively. It offers a digital LCD instrument package, with absolutely clear visibility. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph time in less than 4 seconds. The top speed of the bike will be 225 kmph. This apart, the vehicle has a powerband that is suited for a wide range of riding style.
On account of its affordability and performance, Honda CBR 650F is likely to be a very popular bike on the Indian roads. Let us wait and watch.
