Samsung Electronics has recently made an announcement about launching of its Tizen-based smart watch christened as ‘Samsung Gear S’ expected to be rolled out for sale worldwide from October next. It is one from among its family of smart watches like Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, Gear Fit, etc. that is gradually picking up in acceptability.
The smart watch will not only be 3G internet enabled but will also be independent of mobile-phones. Thus, it will not need a phone to get online or make calls. Its curved 2-inch, 360-by-480, Super Amoled screen gives a fairly impressive appearance. The Nike+ Running App for the gadget gives an added attraction because of its ability to track the user’s moves and mapping his runs through the use of GPS and 3G connectivity.

The smart watch, measuring 39.8 x 58.3 x 12.5mm, is powered by 1 GHz dual-core processor and is equipped with 512 MB of RAM and 4GB of built-in-memory. It supports both 2G and 3G, and is also supportive of Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n). The gadget features a built-in accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, heart rate monitor, ambient light and UV sensors, and a barometer. It is IP67 certified for water and dust resistance. Further, it is backed by a 300 mAh battery that could last for around 2 days of typical usage. It is claimed that the user can seamlessly receive and make calls directly from his wrist without having to take the help of a smart-phone. He can also forward calls etc. to his smart-phone, if any, and get them forwarded to his smart-watch without any difficulty.
While there are no words about the price of the smart-watch, it is expected that in view of certain innovative and unique features, it is likely to be fairly popular. Time will say how the gadget is received and how will the market react to its entry in the world of technologies.
