The Indian Railways (IR) is an incredible organisation – a unique entity indeed. With more than 10,000 trains in operation every day, it is something like a miracle to ensure complete cohesion, safe and comfortable journey for millions of passengers all over the country.
No doubt, in such a situation, keeping track of individual train to cope with individual need is surely not a child’s play.
The IR has recently devised an online application Rail Radar which would help one to not only get to know the status of his train – whether late or not -, but would also track his train on a Google map on real time basis. The application is easy to run. With a click on a particular train, it would show the exact route of the train with stoppages, as also its precise location. Further, the colour indication would help to know if the train is late or running on time. A train, highlighted in red would mean that the train is running behind schedule, while that highlighted in blue would indicate that the train is on time. This application is integrated on google maps.

Identifying a train again is easy: one has only to indicate two railway stations, and all the trains passing between them would be shown immediately. One has only to spot the one meant for him from out of the list. Now, it will not be difficult to get to know the exact location of the train and its status in regard to the arrival and departure time.

It is certainly a major development for travellers and others, and a feather in the cap of the Railways. Travel will henceforth be more planned, systematic, enjoyable and trouble-free. Hats off for the invention!
