Maruti Suzuki – the most widely used vehicle in India - has made a name for itself on the Indian roads since long. It is to enter a new segment this year when its premium hatchback - Maruti Suzuki iK2 - will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. The car is likely to take on Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and the upcoming Honda Jazz in India. It is rumoured to be priced between Rs 7.00 lakh to Rs 11.00 lakh.
The vehicle was first revealed at the 85th Geneva Motor Show as Suzuki iK2 concept - code named YRA - and may be called Maruti Suzuki Fronx in India. The car measures 4023 mm in length, 1920 mm in width and 1450 mm in width. It has a wheelbase of 2.520 mm while the tyre-size of 225/45R18. The vehicle’s side profile feature pronounced creases, which may not probably go well with the present taste.
It features 1.0-litre, direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine that is based on Suzuki’s 1.0-litre K-series engine. Incidentally, this engine powers Maruti Alto and the WagonR as well. Maruti claims that the car’s fuel efficiency has improved with the reduction of engine displacement. The output and the torque are boosted with a turbocharger. It will be offered for Indian market in both petrol and diesel versions - 1.4-litre petrol engine and 1.3-litre Mutijet diesel engine. There is also a new three-cylinder 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, dubbed the Boosterjet, that would give an output of around 120bhp
