India’s largest car maker, Maruti, is reportedly bringing out a compact SUV of just below 4 meter probably by the first quarter of next year. Proposed to be named Vitara Brezza (or YBA, in short), this vehicle may compete with Hyundai’s Creta, Ford’s EcoSport and Mahindra’s TUV300 in the Indian market. The SUV is expected to be launched pretty soon, perhaps as early as in the first quarter of 2016 – most probably at Delhi Auto Expo.
The details about the SUV are still sketchy, but what we understand from information available in the public domain is that the car would be lighter, stronger and compact. It would be powered by a 1.3-litre MJD diesel engine that produces 90 bhp of power and 210 Nm of peak torque. Exterior look-wise, the car is just fine and majestic. The interiors are not very flashy. Keeping with the tradition of Maruti, it will look simple but quite functional. It is equipped with Touchscreen SmartPlay system that can double up as a display for the reverse camera. This apart, it has automatic climate control system which is effective enough.

The other in-built fixtures of the SUV include keyless entry, push-start-stop button, Bluetooth streaming, satellite navigation and Apple’s CarPlay feature. The vehicle is reportedly very fuel-efficient and fairly efficient. While there are no words about the pricing in India, it is expected to be in the range of Rs 8 lacs to Rs 13 lacs. Time will say whether the vehicle proves its worth and gets good popularity in the SUV segment of the car market.
