Named ‘Swayam’ (self-learning), the project is expected to initially begin with three courses – two from IIT Mumbai and one from Princeton University. The Courses from Mumbai will on ‘Introduction to Computer Programming’ and ‘Thermodynamics’, while the one from Princeton University will Quantum Mechanism and Quantum Computation. The first two courses will be covered by Prof Deepak B Phatak and Prof Udai N Gaitonde respectively. The one on Quantum Mechanism and Quantum Computation will however be covered by Prof Umesh V Vazirani.
The courses will not only be offered absolutely free of charges, but would also be available in Indian languages, including in Hindi. It is expected that this India-specific MOOC platform would bring about a revolution in the field of higher education within a short span of time.
