Till the other day, Micromax was an underdog in the market of electronic gadgets with low demands for its products. Gradually, it started picking up with low cost smart phones featuring high-end apps. With the user's soaring confidence and the dependability and quality of its products, the sale of Micromax phones in India improved considerably. The market-share for its products resultantly grew, replacing several giants in the field.
International Data Corporation has now declared in its recent Report that Micromax has increased its market share to 14 per cent of the Indian tablet market, thereby leaving behind some of the giants in this area of industry. Interestingly, Micromax has attained the second position next to only Samsung in this sphere of electronic gadgets. Thus, on account of its strong performance in the second quarter of this year, Micromax has now gone ahead of the high-end Apple.

As per the figures now available, Samsung has the highest acceptability having secured 19 per cent of India’s market-share, followed by Micromax (14 per cent) and Apple with 9 per cent. The Report further reveals that most (60%) of the iPad tablets shipped to India during the quarter, are iPad Mini. Incidentally, the Indian tablet market showed a dwindling trend during the last quarter of 2013 and first quarter of this year. The second quarter’s figures are however encouraging enough with shipments of tablets mounting to 8,60,000 units.
Another interesting finding about the Indian market’s preference is the fact that Android as an Operating System has an overwhelmingly greater acceptability. The Android OS has 89.6 per cent market share as compared to around 10 per cent for all the other OS taken together. Windows is trying to catch up, but it is likely to stay behind at least for a couple of years, if not more.
