Thalmic Lab has launched a much anticipated armband called Myo armband. The Myo can recognize pinches, wrist turns and other hand motions and translates it into specific controls on your computer and smartphone. This armband is lightning-fast and has accurate gesture recognition. This armband is priced around Rs 14,000 roughly in Indian market.
The task of this armband is accomplished via vision sensors that watch your hands and track your movement. This strategy is similar to Microsoft Kinect for Xbox. However, this gesture controlled armband reads forearm muscle movement to translate the motions into specific controls. Though Myo is comfortable to wear, it tends to leave marks on the arm if worn for an extended period of time. This armband is designed with eight rectangular blocks that are held together with a rubber casing. Each block contains medical-grade stainless-steel electromyography (EMG) sensors. This sensors are responsible to read the electric impulses in the muscles on your forearm. Overall, this is a good armband but it is expensive and has limited gesture controls.
