Well friends, soon it will be possible to change the color of your car with the flip of a switch. That is because Nissan is developing a para-magnetic iron oxide paint polymer. Nissan is indeed doing wonderful things in the automotive arena. The company recently unveiled its highly-anticipated 200 GT-R.
Nissan hopes to give car buyers the option to choose colors of their liking for their vehicle at any time. Nissan has developed what it calls a âpara-magneticâ paint coating - a unique polymer layer that features iron oxide particles for application to the vehicle body. When an electric current is applied to the polymer layer, the crystals in the polymer are then interpreted by the human eye as of different colors. The vehicle pumps out an impressive 473 HP and an equally impressive 434 lb-ft of twist from its twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 engine. At the flick of a switch, a driver can choose whether his car would be red, blue, pink, black, silver, or any other number of colors. There is no word as to how hard it is to make para-magnetic paint, or how much it will cost.
This is Nissan's second attempt revolutionizing car paint. Their original "Scratch Guard Coat" keeps paint from showing minor scratches, and is currently available on some of their higher end models. However, since a steady current is needed to maintain the color effect, the para-magnetic paint doesn't work when the vehicle is turned off. Instead, the vehicle would revert back to a default white color.
