While Microsoft recently closed the deal with Nokia due to the issues like pending clearances etc., Nokia (once the world’s largest manufacturer) is now planning to re-enter the mobile market with support from other vendors. Nokia recently announced that it will license its brand to third-party manufacturers for different devices and products.
Nokia closed the deal successfully of selling its devices and services division to Microsoft, an acquisition that completed in April this year. According to the acquisition Nokia is not allowed to use its brand on any Smartphone until Q4 2016, and on any feature phones for coming 10 years. However, the company can freely manufacture the non-phone products. Ramzi Haidamus, President of Nokia Technologies, says that the company will use its Nokia Brand on those ‘areas where the brand is relevant’.
Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri, while speaking to German publication Manager Magazin, revealed the company's plans to re-enter the mobile phone market by the end of 2016. Suri also said: ‘We will look for suitable partners. While Microsoft makes mobile phones. We would simply design them and then make the brand name available to license.’ Nokia followed the same strategy and launched Nokia N1 tablet as the company's first mobile product after the Microsoft acquisition.
Reports say that, in a recent development program at Microsoft, four senior Microsoft Executives including former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop are leaving the company which will result in a top level shake up for the company.
