Slow or unstable internet connectivity is a major complaint for many internet users. There is some really cheering news for them as also others desirous of using internet – the news that would brighten them up. SpaceX – a company founded some twelve years ago and engaged in designing, manufacturing and launching of advanced rockets and spacecrafts – has recently announced a plan to expand and improve internet facility through launch of hundreds of satellites, which could revolutionize the use of internet all over the globe, and beyond.
Elon Musk, the CEO and Founder of SpaceX, while hosting an event at Seattle on the occasion of opening a new office, disclosed his plan to launch hundreds of micro satellites in the space for better and faster internet connections. In fact, he first tweeted on 11th November last year about the project, saying that it was in an early stage of development and that he would be back in next two to three months time. He plans to make these satellites orbit at a height of around 1200 kms, closer than most communication satellites, thereby making communications faster and providing accessibility to remote parts of the world. Incidentally most communication satellites orbit at a height of 36,000 kms. The project will help in speeding up the general flow of data on the Internet and deliver high-speed, low-cost internet services to the three billion-plus people who still have poor access to the Web. "Our focus is on creating a global communications system that would be larger than anything that has been talked about to date," Musk told Bloomberg Businessweek ahead of the announcement.
Once the plan is put in place, the system will be stretched all the way to Mars, where SpaceX plans to set up a colony in coming decades. It is understood that Google is in talk with SpaceX and is considering investing in company in its quest for bringing Internet access to remote areas of the Earth. The future of internet seems to be quite bright, and those addicted to the net will hopefully enjoy easy and fast accessibility sooner than later.
