Segway PT is a revolutionary and a unique personal two-wheeled transport device powered by battery. It has no seat for the driver, and can be used only in a standing posture. The vehicle invented by Dean Kamen almost 15 years ago initially, has gone through several modifications meanwhile. The device, as available today, is a self-balancing human transporter equipped with computer-controlled gyroscopic stabilisation and control system.
The movement of the vehicle is controlled by the rider’s body movement. Just by shifting the weight forward, the device gets command to move forward. Similarly a tilt to the backward makes the vehicle go backward. The device has the ability to detect the change in its centre of mass through its Gyroscopic sensors and fluid based levelling sensors, thereby establishing the balance and the speed – forward or backward – and maintains that speed. Turning right or left can be done through the handlebar.
