Sony has launched a crowdfunding platform namely First Flight wherein opportunity will be given to the new innovations and projects to be developed with the crowd’s help. This platform is not for alien companies, rather will be used by only Sony employees to develop projects. This step by Sony is looked upon as a step to revive its business and lessen the loss incurrence of new products.
Sony has a team of engineers who brainstorm and come up with innovative ideas and convert them into products. One such instance is Sony’s E-paper FES Smartwatch which received crowd funding of approximately JPY 4.78 million (Approximately Rs 25 lakhs). The First Flight will be the platform where a list of Sony’s new ideas will be open for crowdfunding. The platform is used only by Sony and no one else.

Recently, Sony received a huge crowdfunding for PS4/PC game from kickstarter but now, Sony wants crowdfunding through its own platform. By crowdfunding figures and responses, Sony will be able to gain an insight whether or not the product will be appreciated and hence can take precautionary steps.
Through First Flight platform, Pre-order bookings can be made for the products listed by Sony. The crowdfunding platform is active in Japan as of now and in future, Sony is expected to earn lot of revenue
