Here comes another vehicle of moderate cost that could be seen running on Indian roads soon enough. Coming soon after the launch of the Zest, Tata Motors’ new car, Tata Bolt, is scheduled for launch in about a couple of months. The vehicle with its eye-catching design and remarkable features was previewed at the 2014 Auto Expo, Delhi recently.
There is definitely something new in the designing of the car that is different from the usual Tata brand of which we have been so used to. It comes with several innovative features and employs a new language of design both for its interiors and exteriors. Tata claims that the name Bolt itself has a connotation to speed which also has an implication of a winner’s attitude.

The frontal segment of the car with new grille and sleek and shiny headlights looks fairly attractive. The rear segment with the rounded edges gives an appearance of expensive vehicles. Thus, the exteriors are unique in its category of vehicles.
The interiors are similarly attractive. It is fairly spacious from the inside. The finishing of the materials inside, the switches and knobs are good. The dashboard has been given a new design.
Tata Bolt is powered by the new 1.2 litre, 4 cylinder, turbocharged Revotron petrol engine, which is rated at 75PS and 145Nm. The diesel variant is powered by 1.3 litre 4-cylinder turbo charged Quadrajet powerplant, which chums out 75PS of max power 190Nm of peak torque. Both the engines will come mated to a 5-Speed manual gear box
The car will be available in four petrol and three diesel variants, with the cost expected to be in the range of Rs 4.6 lacs to Rs 6.6 lacs in the Indian market.
The Tata Bolt is likely to give tough competition to cars like Maruti’s Switft, Honda Brio, Hyundai’s i10, etc. Let us see how the vehicle fares in the Indian market.
