The BMW 2 Series Coupe was introduced in early 2014 as a replacment for the 1 Series Coupe. It's based on the latest 1 Series hatchback but slightly stretched to create a sportier coupe bodystyle. BMW will be counting on the 2 Series genuine coupe shape to win buyers away from its price and power rivals. The car maker also promises a generous spread of standard features to go with the sporting lifestyle looks.
BMW announces the introduction of an entirely new model series with the introduction of the all-new BMW 2 Series Coupe. This new take on The Ultimate Driving Machine will arrive in the US in the first quarter of 2014 as the 228i and the M235i. There are two drivetrain choices: the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, good for 240 hp, or the more sporting powertrain in the M235i, which features a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six that generates 320 hp.
Design
It doesn't matter how often you drive the BMW 2 Series Coupe, every time you sit down at the wheel, you will feel the same thrill of freedom and power. The front design of BMW 2 Series Coupe represents pure sportiness. The intense gaze of the pointed headlight is focused on the road. The four contour lines on the bonnet visualise the air streams flowing across it. A distinctive vehicle concept unique in its segment, with a two-door body in classic three-box design typical of BMW Coupes.
Driving Dynamics
This vehicle gets started where others stop: turbocharged straight six-cylinder engine with 240 kW (326 hp), dynamic braking, a rear spoiler lip for increased surface pressure, M Sport chassis and lots more - welcome to a world that revolves around racing and offers breathtakingly high performance. With its special six-cylinder in-line engine and sporty engine sound, the M Performance is the sportiest of the 2 Series models. The specially aligned M Sport suspension, lowered by 10 mm, and variable sport steering incl. Servotronic, give the vehicle improved agility and driving dynamics.
Efficiency
Engines with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology deliver segment-leading figures in terms of both sporting ability and efficiency. the BMW M235i, is the most powerful gasoline-driven BMW M Performance Automobile. It has a unique M Performance 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder with TwinPower technology delivering 322 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Efficiency is further increased by the extensive use of BMW Efficient Dynamics technology, including Air Curtains and the Auto Start/Stop function in conjunction with both manual and automatic transmissions.
Driving Assistant
The Driving Assistant combines the Lane Departure Warning and Approach Warning systems. The Approach and Pedestrian Warning with city braking function warns of the risk of collision with other vehicles or pedestrians and applies the brakes in an emergency. At speeds above arounf 70km/h, the Lane Departue Warning warns the driver if the vehicle threatens to stray out of its lane, by making the steering wheel vibrate.
