Needless to mention, the 3-D Printing has brought about a virtual resurgence in the sphere of modern science and technology and is likely to be fairly popular and highly acceptable soon amongst the product developers and industrialists.
Three-dimensional printing technology is a comparatively new concept. It is a process of making three-dimensional solid objects from a digital file. Thus, apart from the length and width, one can also see for himself the depth of the object as well. The creation of the printed object can be done through the additive process that would amount to creating successive layers of materials till the entire picture gets crystallised.
The evolution of 3-D printing technology have moved from the days when people used to squeeze melted plastic filament through a thin nozzle to create toys to the modern-day presentation of hi-tech prototype of complicated machine parts.3-D Printing is more than simply prototyping. It all starts with making a virtual design of the object – done through CAD file or Computer Aided Design file – using a 3-D modelling program or through the use of three-dimensional Scanner that creates a 3-D digital copy of an object and puts it in a 3-D modelling programme. For preparing the digital file readied in the programme, the software would slice it down to innumerable horizontal layers, and the prepared file is uploaded in the 3-D Printer. The printer, on its part, would create the object layer-by-layer to ultimately provide a 3-D contour.
Presently 3-D Printing provides transformative advantages at various points of creation - right from the stage of initial concept-design to the concluding stage of the final product-making. It is however interesting to note that 3-D Printers now use a variety of materials with different mechanical properties, feature definition, surface finish, environmental resistance, visual appearance, accuracy and precision, useful life, thermal properties, etc. It is therefore of particular importance to chart out the primary applications for 3-D printing so that the user can determine as to what specific technology would suit him most for the best possible impact for his venture.
Needless to mention, the 3-D Printing has brought about a virtual resurgence in the sphere of modern science and technology and is likely to be fairly popular and highly acceptable soon amongst the product developers and industrialists.
