WhatsApp Voice calling, one of the big features missing from WhatsApp's platform, is coming very soon. The updated version of WhatsApp will offer support for the voice call feature. WhatsApp CEO Jan Kuom announced that the voice calling feature would be added to Android and iPhone first, followed by BlackBerry, Nokia and Microsoft. This confirms that the feature is indeed close to being launched.
With the updated WhatsApp released for iPhone on September 8, the company has added a number of features like improved location sharing and fast camera access. In addition, it has added a pop-up feature that asks you to access the microphone every time you want to keep the app opened. This pop-up reads, WhatsApp need microphone access to send Voice Messages, record Videos with sound, make and receive Voice Calls. This pop-up will come into view only if the user fails to allow WhatsApp access to the microphone. If you want to see this, Go to Settings - Privacy - Microphone - WhatsApp - turn over the slider to Off. Now open WhatsApp to access the voice calling feature.
With the voice calling option available in WhatsApp, people will not only be able to chat with those on their list, but will also be able to call them up. One more advantage WhatsApp would have over Skype and Viber is that the former uses less bandwidth. As compared to calls via Viber or Skype, WhatsApp is extremely optimized for voice calls, and is therefore considered faster.
