Who in the sphere of internet is not conversant with the instant messaging services of WhatsApp? The app has indeed taken the IT world by storm. With the launching of WhatsApp some six years ago in 2009, it has claimed for itself the foremost position in the area of instant messaging, leaving other messaging services far behind. The popularity of WhatsApp can be gauged from the simple fact that now around 700 million monthly active users around the globe are using the App.
Notwithstanding its general acceptability and tremendous popularity, WhatsApp’s limitations too have come under focus. One major constraint of WhatsApp is that it works only on mobile phones with no option of using through the desktop or laptop. Some developers did try to develop apps for using WhatsApp on the desktop, but then this again had its drawbacks. The situation has fortunately been changed of late with a very welcome announcement from WhatsApp.
WhatsApp has recently announced the debut of WhatsApp Web that can be used with ease through a non-mobile gadget, like a laptop or desktop. The new system essentially mirrors the app on the user’s mobile phone on to the website. For using it one has to visit WhatsApp web page and log in on the desktop. He has to scan a picture of a QR code through WhatsApp on the phone. WhatsApp makes use of the user’s phone number and SMS verifications instead of seeking the usernames and the passwords. He can then start creating his message from there. The app is at the moment available for mobiles with Androids, Windows or blackberry operating system. It is not compatible for iOS now.
Drawback: Your phone must also be connected to the internet for you to use Whatsapp on Web
