The later versions came up with Internet Explorer 5.0 and Windows Media Player 6.2. Thus Windows 98 remained in style till the next versions, Windows 2000 NT and Windows ME, were released towards the end of 2000. The introduction of additional features continued with every new version, and the progress of development of Windows proved steady all through.
Windows XP - released in October 2001 - proved to be a major development in the horizon of Windows that claimed to be altogether different experiment for Windows users. It provided a number of new features and came up with several innovative ideas. The Home Edition was the basic version, while the Professional Edition with added features was meant for more serious users. In the row after these versions were Windows Vista and Windows 7. The latter version – with improved design and released about five years back – was made compatible with a host of applications. It got ready supporters amongst the users.

This is how Windows travelled from the eighties to the present stage with host of changes, innovations and breakthroughs. One doesn’t know what more are on store in the coming years. Let’s wait and watch.
